How Does Acne Develop?

Here are the steps of acne development:

  1. Excessive accumulation of horny scales.
  2. Horny scales stick together and form a plug which is known as comedone.
  3. Comedone clogs a pilosebaceous duct.
  4. Sebum accumulates in the sebaceous gland.
  5. Under these conditions, bacteria, which normally live in the sebaceous glands, begin to proliferate.
  6. This results in inflammation – formation of pimples and pustules.

  • 70% of women have the exacerbation of the disease a week before menstruation
  • depression or psychological stress

  • skin compression (e.g., by a telephone handset)
  • diseases of the endocrine glands
  • diseases of reproductive organs
  • squeezing out of blackheads and pustules, self-treatment

Pigmented spots, redness of unknown etiology, acne – all of these cosmetic defects may be manifestations of diseases of internal organs. If you have blackheads, pimples or redness most often localized in a certain area on the face, and they tend to reappear, it is better to check the relevant organ the failure of which may cause imperfections. Only by solving the problem inside, you can forget about pimples from the outside.

ACNE IS NOT RELATED TO POOR HYGIENE!
*Too frequent washing can dry the skin and aggravate the course of the disease.

FOOD DOESN’T AFFECT ACNE FORMATION!
Fatty and spicy food, chocolate and butter can’t cause acne. However, some patients claim that certain foods exacerbate the disease. If that is your case, avoid these food products.

REMISSION DOESN’T NECESSARILY COME IN SUMMER!
UV light does have a disinfecting and masking ability. But high UV doses weaken the local immune defense. Furthermore, they intensify formation of sebum. This can cause further exacerbation of the disease. Moreover, UV complicates skin-flakes casting-off in the sebaceous gland ducts. Thus, the number of lesions increases.
